Notice to Commission of University Education (CUE) on maximum workload for all lecturers at the university

This to inform you that the matter of lecturer workload is a matter that has previously led to litigation through a case by the Technical University of Mombasa. In court submissions, it was heard that TUM management attempted to increase lecture units from 3 to 4 per semester. In a ruling on the matter in Oct. 2019, the Court pronounced itself that the maximum workload for any lecturer is 3 units per semester. This time is calculated to include research time, preparation to lecture, lab time, clinicals and field time as applicable. However, the workload issue is within the mandate of CUE. Hence, the National Secretary General of UASU has written to the CUE for clarity on the same. Herein attached is the letter from the NSG on this matter. Attached also is the Court ruling on the matter. In the absence of any clarity from CUE, the Union hereby notifies you to stick to a maximum of 3 Course units per semester.
