Dear UASU members,
After months of tugging with University Management over Governance Reforms and the consequent litigation determined in favour of the Union, the Union has finally delivered what the Chapter had been fighting for.
Today afternoon, with concurrence from the National Office of UASU, the main litigant in the case, UASU signed a Consent on the following terms:
That:
- All Deans shall be elected and will be academic and administrative heads of faculty. They will serve a 3yr term renewable once.
2.The elected Deans Shall serve in the University Executive Board ( UEB) - Reorganization of the Faculty of Arts & Social Science and the Faculty of Health Sciences will be commence participatorily
- Reinstatement of previously scrapped depts (Kiswahili, Literature, Psychology, Geography, Pop and Environmental Studies, Anaesthesia, Pharmacology, Ophalmology)
- Reinstatement of DVCs as per University Charter
- Faculty Committees, whose members are teaching staff in a Faculty and chaired by Deans to be in charge of all matters at the Faculty.
- Election of Senate faculty reps to be competitive and supervised by Academic Registrar.
- Excess Hospital bed charges to be borne by the University and recovered over a 12 month period. The University will revise this rate to be reflected in the local 2017/2021 CBA.
- Members of academic staff owed by the University through DSP services shall commit such monies as they wish to defray any University fees
- Local CBA 2017/2021 should be kickstarted and concluded in 120 days
- The 51 month National CBA arrears to be paid.
The complete details of the above agreement as has been mutually signed by all parties will be available in our website as soon as it is extracted from Court. We will keep the conversation going and keep fine tuning every aspect of governance that should keep bettering our University.
