Strike Notice! Communique From UASU – UoN Nov 2024

For Immediate release!
DATED: 11th November 2024

Good evening, UASU members. I hope this finds you all well.On 22nd October 2024, the UASU National Secretary General gave a Seven Day Notice of aNational Strike across ALL PUBLIC UNIVERSITIES that took effect on the 29th of October 2024.

This Notice followed concerted efforts by the National Office to:

  1. Negotiate, Conclude, Register, and Implement the 2021/25 National Collective Bargaining Agreement as per the law and Recognition Agreement Executed on 28th October 2019 between UASU and the Inter Public Universities Councils Consultative Forum (IPUCCF)2.
  2. Negotiate, Conclude, Register, and Implement Chapter Collective Agreements in the UoNcase for 2017/21, which could pave the way for the 2021/25 cycle. The trigger that led to the current industrial action was the FAILURE TO IMPLEMENT THEAGREED AND SIGNED RETURN-TO-WORK-FORMULA DATED 26TH SEP. 2024 BY IPUCCF,MINISTRY OF LABOUR & SOCIAL PROTECTION, AND THE MINISTRY OF EDUCATION.

The main reason for this communique is to address a Memo by the DVC AA, meant to threaten, intimidate and coerce UASU Members who are simply following a stern directive by their Union.

First, known University protocols stipulate that the DVC AA is NOT a supervisor of lecturers. Such imagined powers are misplaced, misinformed and therefore amount to a nullity. Secondly, ropingin students in the same Memo by attempting to threaten them into submission of a misinformeddirective, is not only dishonorable and wildly incendiary, but it also targets an innocentconstituency who bear the brunt of an insensitive Government.

LET ME REPEAT, THE STRIKE GOES ON UNABATED!! UASU does NOT scare easy, will NOTrelinquish this mantra unless by direction from the NATIONAL SECRETARY GENERAL, UASU.

UASU-UoN MEMBERS, STRIKE UNTIL A DEAL IS STRUCK!! SOLIDARITY FOREVER

.Regards,

Dr. Maloba Wekesa

UASU UoN Chapter Secretary

  35. David Wafula

am really disappointed that after all this time wasted, the Chuka university administration still feels it fit to fix exams and force students to attend lectures up to late hours. That>s uncalled for
MAYBE AN ALTERNATIVE SHOULD BE TO CALL OFF EXAMS UNTIL THE NEW YEAR EVE
